5-Year-Old’s Lifeless Body Found in Drain After Tuesdays Heavy Downpour

The lifeless body of a five-year-old pupil, suspected to have been swept away by the floodwaters, was found in an open drain at Moshie Zongo, a neighborhood in Kumasi.

The tragic incident occurred as schoolchildren were making their way home from school, and the young victim, identified through her school uniform as a student of Utopia International School in the Old Tafo Municipality, was located by concerned residents.

These residents promptly initiated efforts to determine the child’s identity. Emmanuel Nti Kyei, the Assembly Member for the Moshie Zongo Member Electoral area, shared the distressing news, noting that the victim’s family had been notified about the tragic discovery.

The police swiftly responded, conveying the child’s body to the morgue for preservation and an autopsy to ascertain the exact cause of death. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by heavy rainfall and flooding, highlighting the need for improved drainage systems and emergency preparedness measures in vulnerable areas.
