The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, is scheduled to appear before the parliamentary committee investigating the Bugri Naabu leaked tape on Tuesday, September 12. The tape allegedly captures a conversation discussing the removal of the IGP from his office
The committee’s chairman, Samuel Atta Akyea, announced this development, emphasizing that the purpose of the hearing is to provide the IGP with an opportunity to present his perspective on the matter
In an interview Mr. Atta Akyea clarified that the hearing will be conducted in-camera. He explained that certain aspects of the proceedings need to be kept confidential to safeguard national security interests.
“Some serious allegations have been made in public, but the specific evidence supporting these allegations has not been disclosed to the public. Therefore, our objective is to unearth the evidential support for these allegations. We will exercise discretion in determining which pieces of evidence can be shared with the public without compromising national security,”
Mr. Atta Akyea emphasized that the committee is committed to ensuring that the IGP is not subjected to public disgrace and insult without receiving a fair hearing.
